The Routburn Track

!Back!

After two some weeks on the road I have returned to Lincoln for the start of my second semester. My break was full of adventures and general good times. I started the break on the Routburn track which was super sweet and very pretty.

The start of the adventure.

The track is another on of New Zealand's "Great Walks" and sure lived up to its name with amazing scenery and an immaculately maintained trail.

The huts were more like mansions in the woods. This one slept 50 and had quite the deck.

Keep in mind that it is still very much winter here in Kiwi Land. Here the track is climbing its way up to Harris Saddle, we encountered a fair bit of snow on the track.

Topping out near the shelters at Harris Saddle. The weather was pretty good for late June and made hike just a bit more exciting.

Once at the saddle one can take a side hike to get up on top one of the near by peaks. Here's the track climbing up into the clouds.

The view from the top made the climb worth it ten times over.

Once past the saddle we headed back down into the Hollyford drainage. The track stayed on countour the rest of the afternoon before dropping off down to the next hut.

The next hut was on the shore of a lake, you can see it in the upper right corner of the picture.

The view looking out the front door.

Day three landscapes

Random lake on day three just before the end of the trail.

Sweet as, thumbs up to a great tramp.
