Mt. Fyffe
Lincoln does things a little different than OSU, especially when it comes to final exams. Lincoln has a three week long final exam period....Crazy! Consequently, I had 10 days in between finals...ROAD TRIP!
First stop was a climb up Mt. Fyffe which is about a 3 hour drive north of Christchurch along the coast. You park at sea level then trudge up 3000 vertical feet to this well placed hut.
This is the view after about an hour of hiking. We made it to the hut just as it was getting dark, eat dinner, played some cards, and went to bed.
We awoke the next morning real early so we could summit to watch sun rise.
Dawn at the summit looking down on the Kaikoura Peninsula.
The sun coming up over the clouds. We were joined by another group that we shared the hut with.
Winter in coming to NZ and the tops are starting to accumulate some snow.
Myself on the way back down to the hut for breakfast while the morning works its way across the land.
