BULLER FEST!!!!!!!

Ok, sweet. So you probably noticed the lack of Me (Richard) in the last few post. That is because I started school at Lincoln after we left Milford a while back. But nevertheless, BullerFest was happening one weekend so Amy came down from up north at Able Tasman while I jetted out from school Friday afternoon and we met up in Murchison for a weekend extravaganza!

BullerFest attracted about 300 people, and I bet more than half competed in one of the various events all weekend, from the Xtreme Race, Slalom course, BoaterCross, and Big Air.

Boats as far as the eye can see.

First we watched the mayhem of the BoaterCross. Four rafts trying to paddle back upstream around gates, all at the same time = chaos!

Here's the put in for the BoaterCross.

We weren't going to enter any of the events, until we saw the slalom course and heard that there was a novice category. It looked like too much fun to pass up.

Plus all contestants get a cool Teva bib. Sweet as.

On your mark, get set, go!

Amy

Richard navigates back up the gate. (This move was hard!)

For the record, Richard did make this gate.

This dude paddled the slalom with a broken leg! And did well!

Saturday night a big party was held and much fun was had by all. Sunday the Big Air Comp was on, and made for a great afternoon event. Richard entered and used a sit on top kayak because he had no playboat...

the crew getting briefed and checking out the ramp

The crowed ready for some carnage!

Up, Up, and away!

The barrel roll/ Pistol flip thing was the move of the day.

good stuff

Richard trying to hang on and make it to the quarterfinals.

It was a great day out for everybody

The set up may look a bit Dodgey but it work pretty well

getting ready to drop in

No trip to Murchison would be complete without a stop at Muriaia Falls.

waterfall 101

the level was real low so landing anything but close to vertical would have sucked so the Oregon Tuck made its first appearance in NZ

All and all it was a great weekend, and Amy and I headed back to CHCH for some much needed rest.
